LASER HAIR REMOVAL: IS IT THE RIGHT CHOICE FOR YOU?

The removal of hair via a laser treatment is one of the most common procedures in the United States. The process entails exposing the unwanted hair to short bursts of concentrated light (laser), which will affect the hair follicle. Most people opting for permanent hair removal, choose laser hair removal over the conventional methods of tweezing, waxing, and shaving. A laser hair removal procedure can be used to remove hair from the legs, bikini line, underarms, face, and back. There are many benefits to using laser removal of hair. These include:

Permanent Hair Loss- More than 90% of patients report hair loss that is permanent after undergoing anywhere from 3 to 5 sessions.  This will be more cost effective in the long run, considering you wouldn’t have to keep purchasing hair removal products.

Precision- Lasers target specific areas for treatment and leave the surrounding areas of the skin undamaged. This enables the laser to selectively target coarse, dark hairs, which are usually the most visible.

Speed- A single pulse from a laser requires less than a second and is able to treat a large area simultaneously. The laser treats a coin-size area in a single pulse. A small area such as the upper lip is treated within a minute whereas larger areas such as the back may require an hour.

When going for a laser hair removal treatment, experts at Summerlin Dermatology recommend avoiding sun exposure for at least 6 weeks prior to and after the treatment. Sun exposure renders the laser treatment ineffective. They also suggest that waxing, plucking, and electrolysis should be limited for at least 6 weeks prior to the treatment. This is because the laser is targeting the roots which are removed during the plucking and waxing procedure. Summerlin Dermatology are experts in laser hair removal in Las Vegas. Through their Elos® technology, they can guarantee a reduction in hair regrowth. Their laser hair removal treatment effectively targets hairs of different colors and on many skin tones.

After the laser procedure, the treated area may appear sunburned. In case of discomfort, a soothing moisturizer or cool compress may be applied.  If you have to head out, ensure you wear sunscreen with a minimum SPF 30. Other side effects such as redness and swelling are only temporary and disappear with time.  The initial cost of a laser treatment may seem expensive, but in the long run, it will be more affordable than buying hair removal products.
