About Pityriasis Rosea
When a rash appears on your skin and you don't know where it came from, it can be worrisome. Our board-certified dermatologist at Summerlin Dermatology, Dr. Reuel Aspacio, understands your cause for concern. He provides skin consultations for common rashes, like pityriasis rosea, on a regular basis. The rash is preceded by an oval rash called “herald patch,” often mistaken as that of a ringworm, then spreads on the chest, back, arms and legs. This rash is slow to disappear even with treatment. We want you to come to our office and get the answers you are looking for by learning what type of rash you have and how to best treat it. "My visits went extremely well each time I went. Not to long of a wait and everyone was so professional and kind."- K.S. / Google / Apr 29, 2019
"Wait time was reasonable. Very attentive to my concerns."- C.B. / Google / Apr 25, 2019
"Dr. Aspacio is the best! My last dermatologist did my annual skin check so quickly that I was worried about something being missed. It was a joke. But Dr. Aspacio takes his time and does an extremely thorough check, explaining what he is seeing as he goes. I feel confident now when I leave there that I'm getting what I need. This doctor is a keeper! In addition, his attitude and friendly, warm demeanor make the visit a joy. One last thing...everyone else from the office staff to his assistant are also very friendly and efficient. I am so glad I switched to this doctor and can recommend the place without any hesitation."- J.L. / Google / Apr 18, 2019
"First time I had an appointment with the doctor. He was very nice and very interested in what I wanted to have done. I will definitely go back to him."- Anonymous / Healthgrades / Apr 05, 2019
"This is by far the best medical practice experience I've had since living in Las Vegas for a year. I believe my RN was Alice Dreyfus. She spent time with me and was personal. A quality so rare to find these days in the medical field. She went over all of my concerns with me. The office was clean, neat, professional. I will definitely be back. Thank you Summerlin Derm. for you professionalism, kindness, and customer service. Keep it up."- M.D. / Yelp / Apr 03, 2019
A breakout of pityriasis rosea is a common rash we suspect is from a virus. No matter the cause, an accurate diagnosis is important because many skin conditions may look like pityriasis rosea, such as bacterial infections, fungal infections, psoriasis, and lichen planus to name a few.
Pityriasis rosea usually starts as an oval rash (called the “herald patch”). Unfortunately, it is often mistaken as a ringworm. Within a week or two, a small oval rash will start appearing on the skin of the trunk and extremities, sparing the face, palms, and soles of the feet. The rash typically does not itch or burn. Although the rash typically goes away (even without treatment) and discoloration dissipates in eight weeks, it is distressing for many not knowing what is wrong with their skin.
After a physical examination by Dr. Aspacio, he will provide you with a detailed diagnosis and a treatment plan to follow to alleviate your symptoms or manage the rash. He may write you a prescription and/or offer you information for home remedies that may be applied to minimize your pityriasis rosea symptoms.
