Warts are small, benign growths on the skin caused by human papillomavirus (HPV) infection. They commonly appear on the hands, feet, and other areas prone to trauma. Different types of warts include common warts, plantar warts, and genital warts. Warts can spread through direct contact with the virus. Treatment options include over-the-counter remedies, cryotherapy (freezing), salicylic acid treatments, laser therapy, and surgical removal. In many cases, warts may resolve on their own over time.
